At
this time, we have now ceased offering individual packets of vegetable
seeds with the exception of our famous heirloom tomato seeds. Due to the
current state of the economy, we are finding that the majority of our customers
are asking for sets of seeds that will allow them to grow enough vegetables
to help reduce the cost of groceries. We are now focusing on offering sets
of vegetable seeds to our customers at an affordable price that will allow
them to grow their own food. These sets of seeds are
also very storable and can be used over the course of several growing seasons.
Not only are these sets a great value in price compared to buying individual
packets of seeds, but the produce they will yield for you will give you
an even greater savings off your grocery bill. With this in mind,
at this time, we will no longer be offering individual packets of vegetable
seeds for individual sale with the exception of our heirloom tomatoes.
You can however, still browse through our seed pages to see what kind of
seeds we offer in our sets.

Origin: Armenia Item #: CUCUMBER001 The Armenian Yard Long Cucumber, also known as the Armenian Light Green Serpent Cucumber and Armenian Burpless Cucumber is one of the most desireable cucumbers sought by gardeners due to it's excellent taste, huge size and unusual appearence. This variety produces light green colored, heavily ribbed fruit that range from 2 to 3 feet in length, with a diamter of approximately 3 inches! Despite it's huge size, the flavor remains excellent. Apart from its great size and unusual ribbed skin, it is also unusual in that if left to grow on the ground, it will grow into strange twisted shapes resembling a snake's coil, yet if grown on a trellis will grow straight. Despite being a novelty, it is an outstanding slicing cucumber and one of our most popular varieties.
Long Green Improved Cucumber Origin: United States Item #: CUCUMBER002 First introduced in 1870,
a strong vine produces an abundance of very firm, old fashioned, dark green
cucumbers that reach 10 to 12 inches in length that are ideal for using
as slicing. Very disease resistant. Matures at 65 days.
Straight 8 Cucumber Origin: United States Item #: CUCUMBER003 The Straight Eight Cucumber was an All American Selection cucumber variety introduced by Ferry-Morse in 1935 that produces a 2.5 inch by 6.5 to 8 inch long, cylindical slicing cucumber with blunt ends. The skin is dark green with white spines and and crisp white interior. These long green slicing cucumbers are produced on a vigorous, productive wine that yield loads of all purpose cuse cucumbers. Matures in 58 to 65 days.
Origin: Australia Item #: CUCUMBER004 This is a great and much sought after variety of Cucumber. Sometimes confused with the Crystal Apple Cucumber to which it is undoubtedly related. Sturdy, disease resistant vines produce an abundance of lemon shaped cucumbers that are of a yellow color. Easy to digest and never bitter, they can be eaten out of hand like an apple, sliced or pickled. Variety is rust and drought resistant. Introduced in the United States originally in 1894 by Crosman seeds of New York & Hayward, California (who were established in 1838 and who were believed to have found this cucumber variety in Australia). Crosman Seeds marketed the Lemon Cucumber well into the 1940's and described them as: "similar in appearance to a lemon and is used for pickling or the seeds can be removed and (the cucumber is) then stuffed with a relish. This cucumber is a boon to those who are distressed after eating the common cucumber as this fruit can be easily digested." In guaging our customer's
opinions about our seeds, our strain of Lemon Cucumbers were one of the
best performers during 2002, 2003, 2004 and 2005! They performed marvelously
for ourselves as well, taking top honours for our 2004 and 2006 seasons.
These were our most productive cucumbers for 2006, outproducing many expensive
commercial varieties in our trials. A few plants will yield loads of these
delectable yellow cucumbers. This variety should be in every garden!
Straight 9 Cucumber Origin: United States Item #: CUCUMBER009 The Straight 9 cucumber is an improved variety of the famous Straight 8 Cucumber. While it is similar in its shape and color to Straight 8, this excellent slicing cucumber variety produces longer cucumbers (up to 9 inches in length) and is not only tolerant to drought, but also resistant to Downy and Powdery Mildews. Produces an abundant yield of tasty cucumbers on vigorous vines. Matures in 55 to 60 days.
Marketmore 76 Cucumber Origin: United States Item #: CUCUMBER010 Developed
by Dr. Henry Munger in 1976, this long, slender green slicing cucumber

States. Cucumbers are 2 inches in thickness and reach upwards of 8 inches
in length. Matures in 65 days and has a long bearing season on a semi-bush

Ferry & Co. in 1888. The Northrup King Seeds Company was later its official vendor. However, this cucumber variety actually originated years earlier and was a variety developed by John G. Westerfield who established a pickle and vinegar factory at Wilmette, Illinois in 1857. Westerfield himself was one of the early pioneers of the town of Wilmette, Illinois, was responsible for laying out the plots of that town and rose to great prominence in that area. (For more info, visit: http://www.wilmettehistory.org/wilmettehistory.html ) Other growers soon came to favor this variety and it was used to make dill pickles by commercial canners in and around the Chicago for nearly a century.
