The American tomato variety in question is not to be confused with the variety known as Tigerella, which was an English variety developed from a cross of the Alisa Craig tomato and another parent at the Glasshouse Research Works center. Although both of these varieties are commonly referred to as "Mr. Stripey" or "Mr. Strippy" or "Mr. Stripe" and the Tigeralla actually adopted this name first, in this scenario we are going to reserve the name Mr. Stripey for this bi-colored American tomato variety since the Tigerella is widely known under its existing name. This American variety is a large bi-color tomato of a beefsteak type. The tomato's base color is a rich golden yellow and is covered with reddish-pink vertical stripes to create a very striking color combination. Like other yellow type tomatoes, Mr. Stripey has a higher natural sugar content than most varieties, which as a consequence allows it to masquerade as a low-acid tomato variety. This variety produces some very large fruits, but is less hardy than other Bi-Color tomatoes. Rated by one of our visitors who got to sample many varieties in our 2006 trials as "The best tomato I've ever tasted". About 80 days to maturity. Indeterminate.
Ananas Noire Tomato (aka. Black Pineapple Tomato) Origin: Belgium The Ananas Noire Tomato, also known as the Black Pineapple Tomato, is one of the most exciting new tomatoes for the year 2005! This strikingly unusual tomato was developed in Belgium by a horticulrist named Pascal Moreau. Being a recent variety introduced only this year, Ananas Noire (aka. Black Pineapple) is very much in demand and despite a slightly higher price is commanding a greater demand than the actual supply of Ananas Noire/Black Pineapple seeds this year. This wonderful Belgian tomato variety is a true gem as it features extremely smooth fruit that feature a genuine kaleidoscope of colors which alternate between a jade green, a stunning purple and a bright yellow. When the tomatoes are sliced, the tomato reveals a bright green flesh with deep crimson streaks of color. When eaten, the multi colored flesh reveals a true delight, having a wonderful sweet, smokey flavor with a slight hint of citrus. Amazingly enough, unlike so many other rarer tomato varieties, Ananas Noire/Black Pineapple is a very, very productive variety that is capable of producing a very heavy yield. Did very well for us in 2006 despite minimal planting and was unanimously deemed our 2nd best tomato for taste the year 2006 (behind Rostova Extra Special Selection)! Supplies are VERY LIMITED! ![]() ![]() ![]()
Hillbilly Tomato (aka. Flame Tomato) Origin: United States The origin of this old American heirloom tomato variety traces back to the hills of West Virginia in the 1880's and features orange-yellow tomato fruit streaked with red. When cut, Hillbilly tomatoes reveal a starburst pattern in it's meaty flesh. Each Hillbilly Tomato reaches to a weight of upward of 1 1/2 pounds and is very sweet to the taste. Indeterminate. About 85 days to maturity.
Old German Tomato Origin: United States The Old German heirloom tomato is a tomato variety that was originally native from a Mennonite community in Virginia during the 19th century. Presumeably, the original tomatoes of this variety were brought from Germany to the United States by early Mennonite immigrants to that area of Virginia. The tomatoes from this heirloom variety are a golden yellow with pink to red stripes that extend into the tomato's core. Each tomato, which are a beefsteak tomato type, can weigh from a pound upwards to two pounds each. Due to Indeterminate vines, this heirloom tomato will require either staking or use of tomato cages for the best results. Matures in about 85 days. Are you concerned
